How to Make Grand Marnier Chocolate Sauce

Posted on: August 30, 2011

First created in 1880 by Alexandre Marnier-Lapostollehttp://www.grand-marnier.com/secrets-expertise-marnier-lapostolle/history, Grand Marnier is an orange flavored liqueur produced from blended cognac and orange peel. When it’s not being served in cocktails, the 80 proof alcohol is often used in desserts and is an excellent addition to chocolate sauce.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup half & half
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 ounces chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons Grand Marnier

Method

Heat the half & half, butter, and sugar on the stovetop of medium-high heat. Use a silicone spatula to stir the mixture, running the spatula over the bottom and sides of the pans to ensure the sugar is not sticking.

Bring the mixture to a boil. Stop stirring when the sugar has completely melted. Lower the heat and cook at a low boil for two to three minutes.

Stir in the chocolate chips and let the hot mixture melt the chocolate. If chocolate chips are not available, a chocolate bar can be used, but break the bar into small pieces before adding it to the pan.

Serve

Remove the chocolate from the heat. Stir until the mixture is completely smooth. Add the Grand Marnier and serve with a favorite dessert.
