How to Make Rum Chocolate Sauce

Posted on: August 23, 2011

Instead of letting the bottle of rum sit on the pantry shelf, consider using the alcohol to make a delicious rum chocolate sauce fit for any pirate on the high seas. The rich sauce will add a decadent touch to any dessert dish it is served with whether it be cakes, pastries, or ice cream.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup half & half
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 ounces chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons of rum

Step 2:

Pour the half & half into a pan set on medium-high heat. Add the sugar and butter. Stir the mixture with a silicone spatula or wooden spoon as the butter melts. Scrape the sides and bottom of the pan to make sure the sugar isn’t sticking.

Lower the heat to medium-low and allow the mixture to bubble for 2 to 3 minutes. Stop stirring the mixture once the sugar has completely melted. Add the chocolate chips and mix with the hot liquid.

Take the pan off the heat and stir continually until the chocolate is completely smooth. If the mixture remains lumpy, put the pan back on the stovetop over a low heat and allow it to heat up again. While the mixture is warm, stir in the rum.

Serve

Use the rum chocolate sauce as a topping for cakes and pastries or as a dip for bananas, pears, and apples.
