How to Make Spiced Chocolate Sauce

Posted on: August 27, 2011

Cayenne pepper and chocolate may seem like an unlikely pairing but the two work hand in hand to create a delectable smoky flavor. Combined together with a few other ingredients, the result is a spiced chocolate sauce that will give just the right amount of zing to everyone’s favorite desserts. Serve the rich treat over cakes, pastries, ice cream, or fruit.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup half & half
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 5 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper and chili powder

Method

Warm the half & half in a pan on the stovetop over medium-high heat. Add the sugar and butter. Stir the butter to help it melt and bring the mixture to a boil. Run the spatula over the sides and bottom of the pan to ensure the sugar is not sticking.

Lower the heat and allow the mixture to cook with a low boil for 2 to 3 minutes. Once the sugar has melted, stop stirring. Stir the chocolate chips into the pan and let the hot liquid melt the chocolate.

Spice

Remove the pan from the stovetop and stir until the chocolate is smooth. Add the cayenne pepper and chili powder into the chocolate. Mix thoroughly and serve with a dessert.
